Hi, I’m Stephen Bell and I am one of the Christian SRE (Special Religious Education) teachers at Georges River College Peakhurst. Across each fortnight around 120 students from GRC Peakhurst come to learn about who Jesus is, what he has done, and what it would look like to follow him. I have had the privilege of teaching in this role for two and a half years.
One of the best things about teaching SRE is the fantastic questions that the students ask. Some of them are Christians who want to grow in their faith and understanding of Jesus, and they have great questions about what heaven will be like, how many times God will forgive repeated sins, and how we can trust the Bible. Other students have a very basic understanding of Christianity and ask “Why do they call Good Friday ‘Good’ when it’s when Jesus died?” or “When Jesus came back from the dead, wouldn’t it have been gross?” One student is an atheist who often brings challenges to class and we have some very stimulating and respectful discussions.
At the end of Term 1 I will be finishing in my role at GRC Peakhurst, as we are moving to Wollongong for family reasons. I am hoping to get involved in similar SRE teaching amongst the public high schools there.
Please give thanks for the last two and a half years and all of the seeds that have been planting through my teaching about Jesus. Pray that the students would know Jesus better through this work. Please also pray that God would raise up a suitable teacher to continue this work from Term 2 at GRC Peakhurst.
Thanks for your partnership, both prayer and financial, over the last two and a half years!
